Scholarships

Scholarship for Year 7 students

The Merici College Board has decided to grant number of scholarships to students entering Year 7 at Merici College in 2021. This scholarship will recognise the outstanding talents of current Year 6 students and their passion for learning and leading. 
 

Scholarship applications will be assessed based on the following criteria and on any relevant personal circumstances:
 

  • academic excellence in a range of subjects in primary school
  • outstanding contribution to the community life of the primary school they attend and/or the wider community
  • participation in extra curricular activities, for example sporting or cultural activities.

 

The value of the scholarship is $4,000 to assist in covering tuition fees during Years 7 and 8 ($2,000 per year over 2 years = $4,000). 

 

A Formal Letter of Application: Students are to submit their application of 300 words or less which outlines their achievements in the above categories and should be accompanied with supporting documentation (this could be in the form of a reference letter from their Primary principal, reports, certificates and images of competition trophies).

Year 12 Vocational Education and Training Scholarship for current Year 11 student
 

Merici College Board is offering a scholarship that will be awarded to a current Year 11 student who is excelling in the area of Vocational Education and Training (VET). This scholarship is intended to recognise the achievement of students in Vocational Education and to assist financially as we recognise the additional costs associated with VET study and training. All students in our current Year 11 cohort are welcome to apply, if they believe they meet the conditions.

 

The scholarship will be awarded to a student who meets one or more of the following criteria and on any relevant personal circumstances:
 

  • a student undertaking an Australian School Based Apprenticeship (ASBA)
  • a student completing external vocational qualifications
  • a student completing multiple school-based vocational education qualifications

 

The following academic and community requirements will be taken into consideration:
 

  • at least a C grade average
  • strong work ethic and application to study
  • no voids in any BSSS courses
  • outstanding contribution to the community life of the school and/or the wider community
  • participation in extra curricula activities, for example sporting or cultural activities.

 

Value: 

The scholarship will be to the value of $2000 to assist in covering tuition fees during Year 12. 

 

Formal Letter of Application: Students are to submit their application of 600 words or less which outlines their achievements in the above criteria.

Scholarships for current Year 10 Students and Future Year 11/12 Students

The Merici College Board grants a number of scholarships to students entering Year 11 at Merici College. All students in our current Year 10 cohort are welcome to apply, as well as new students applying to Merici from outside the College.

 

Scholarship applications will be assessed based on the following criteria and on any relevant personal circumstances:
 

  • academic excellence in a range of subjects
  • outstanding contribution to the community life of the school and/or the wider community
  • participation in extra curricula activities, for example sporting or cultural activities.

 

There are three special scholarships:
 

  • Kath Pentony Scholarship, donated by the Pentony family, is awarded to an outstanding current Year 10 Mathematics student, staying on at Merici College for Years 11 and 12. 
  • The Melissa Van Poppel Scholarship is awarded to a student who has distinguished herself through her commitment to the Duke of Edinburgh Scheme and to the study of Science.
  • The St Ursula Scholarship awarded to a student who has distinguished herself through her studies of Languages or the Arts.

 

Merici College Board Scholarships:

Determined by the College Board according to the above-mentioned criteria. The number of Board Scholarships each year are dependent on the quality of the applications. The Board has the discretion to award up to two Fully Funded Scholarships to students who meet the criteria at an exceptional standard.

 

Value: 

All standard Scholarships (Melissa Van Poppel, Kath Petony, St Ursula and standard Board scholarships) are valued at $4,000 to assist in covering tuition fees during Years 11 and 12 ($2,000 x 2 years = $4,000).  

 

Full Board scholarships cover the Diocesan School Fee (set by Catholic Education) and General Fee (set by Merici College) as per the College Fees Breakdown schedule (approximate $7000 per year).

 

Formal Letter of Application: Students are to submit their application of 500 words or less which outlines their achievements in the above categories, nominating a category/ies of scholarship as appropriate.
